Gonpo Kyi critically injured after jumping from hotel following assault by Chinese police
Gonpo Kyi, sister of the imprisoned Tibetan businessman and political prisoner Dorjee Tashi is reportedly in a critical condition after jumping from the second floor of a hotel, following repeated assault and mistreatment by Chinese police in Lhasa, Tibet.
Dorjee Tashi, once a successful Tibetan businessman, was arrested during the 2008 protests in Tibet. His testimony reports months of torture while in detention. In 2010, after a closed door trial at the Lhasa Intermediate People’s Court, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on fabricated charges of loan fraud. Rights groups call the case politically motivated. Since his imprisonment, Dorjee Tashi’s family has repeatedly sought legal review of the case multiple times and in multiple ways. Gonpo Kyi has been persistently fighting for her brother Dorjee Tashi’s release in peaceful ways.
