London Office Vows to Strengthen and Promote Tibetan Language and Cultural Identity

In response to China’s sweeping March 2026 law mandating Mandarin instruction for ethnic minorities, the Office of Tibet in London is launching new initiatives to preserve Tibetan culture. To counter the systematic erosion of their native language, the London School of Tibetan Language and Culture introduced a weekly reward system paying students prop money for speaking Tibetan. Starting July 2026, the school will escalate these efforts by transitioning history lessons into Tibetan, playing the Dalai Lama’s morning messages in Tibetan, and enforcing gentle language corrections for adults. Organizers urge parents to prioritize Tibetan at home.
