Tibetans in Diaspora #140 | FT: Dr. Karma Rabsel, Traditional Tibetan Medical Doctor | SOT #219

I was born and raised in Ladakh, a land deeply connected to Tibetan culture and traditions. From a young age, I was drawn to our rich heritage, especially traditional Tibetan medicine, inspired largely by my father, who is a doctor himself. Watching him work and heal sparked my passion, and I decided to pursue this path. As a refugee, I feel a profound responsibility not just to myself but to my community. It’s crucial for us to remember who we are, to cherish our identity, and to protect our unique culture and religion. These are the ties that keep us strong, no matter where life takes us. Though preserving traditional practices comes with its challenges—like a lack of guidance and difficulties in sharing medicines—we must overcome these obstacles through knowledge, research, and unity. I believe young Tibetans have immense potential to rise as professionals recognized worldwide, bridging traditional wisdom and modern knowledge. In this journey, I want to emphasize the importance of supporting one another, celebrating our successes, and continuing to fight for our cause with pride. Let’s keep our roots alive and build a future we can all be proud of.
